Local Area Network (LAN) 


Definition:
A Local Area Network (LAN) is a collection of two or more computers that are located within a limited distance of each other and that are connected to each other directly or indirectly.

Explanation:

The comuters in a Local Area Network are located within a very close geographic region.  The computers in this network sometimes share software and storage on a network server.  The LAN consists of a server, workstations (personal computers), and a network operating system.
