Social Studies Project

Your objective is to research a topic in United States History from 1870 to the present.  You will be given three weeks in class on the computer to gather most of your information.

TR00262A.gif (1715 bytes)  Use a variety of sources such as the Internet, encyclopedias, text books and CD-ROMs.  Two classroom resources you can use are History of the World CD-ROM and World Book On-Line

TR00262A.gif (1715 bytes)  You should take notes on your topic and put them into a proper outline form.
Your outline should have no less than 8 main topics.
Check your English books on page 432 if you have forgotten the rules.

TR00262A.gif (1715 bytes)  You must document where you got your information by completing a bibliography.

TR00262A.gif (1715 bytes)   You will need to have a good visual.  Your visual can be a poster, a model you have made, a PowerPoint or HyperStudio presentation, or any other student made art.

TR00262A.gif (1715 bytes)   When you are an expert on your chosen topic and have a proper outline to turn in to me before your presentation - along with a good visual - you will be ready to teach your classmates the exciting and interesting information you have studied.  Your presentation needs to be between 4 and 5 minutes long.  As always, you may not read your notes.

Follow the steps below and you will be an excellent learner as well as a good teacher!

1.  Choose a topic that interests you from the suggested topic list.

2.  Use several types of sources such as books, encyclopedias, textbook, and Internet.  Go to Project Links *for some suggested Internet sites.  (You will need to properly list your sources in a bibliography which needs to be attached to your outline.)
*To make it easier, we have bookmarked the topic page to take you to the links...just double click on the topic of your choice!

3.  Take notes on the information you gather.   Then put those notes into a proper outline.  Remember 8 main topics at least and page 432 in your English book!  Turn the outline in to me BEFORE you give your presentation so I can follow it as you instruct.  Make sure to include a bibliography!  Absolutely essential!

4.  Create a visual aid that is interesting, bright, neat, and made by you.  It should help you teach your topic.
